Abstract
A novel polarisation independent unable optical filter using a grating -assisted, InGaAsP/InP directional coupler is demonstrated experimenta lly. Such a coupler is made of three planar coupled hetero-material wa veguides. This type of filter has advantages of yield compensation aft er fabrication, narrow bandwidth, potentially broad tuning range and l ow crosstalk between TE/TM modes.
