Rkf. Clark et al., PROSTHODONTIC ASPECTS OF A NEW METHOD FOR FUNCTIONAL RECONSTRUCTION FOLLOWING MAXILLECTOMY, The Journal of prosthetic dentistry, 73(6), 1995, pp. 559-562
The prosthodontic aspects of a new method of reconstruction after maxi
llectomy are described. A custom-made titanium mesh tray filled with c
rushed autogenous hip bone is interposed between two layers of a pedic
led temporal muscle flap. The titanium mesh tray is fabricated on a ca
st carved to represent the anatomy of the reconstructed maxilla. The t
ray is designed so that, after healing, osseointegrated implants can b
e placed in preplanned positions in the reformed maxilla. The buccal s
ulcus is recreated with a free mucosal graft from the contralateral ch
eek at the second implant surgical stage. The prosthodontic restoratio
n is completed after healing of the free mucosal graft.
