PREVENTION OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS THUMB

Laparoscopic surgery is being used in an increasing number of operatio ns today. We have been performing various types of laparoscopic techni ques in our department. A problem we sometimes have encountered involv es a ring of pressure that develops around the surgeon's thumb at the end of the procedure, which is accompanied by an area of paresthesia i n the distribution of the lateral digital nerve. We report our own exp erience and a small review of the literature.
