Laparoscopic surgery is being used in an increasing number of operatio
ns today. We have been performing various types of laparoscopic techni
ques in our department. A problem we sometimes have encountered involv
es a ring of pressure that develops around the surgeon's thumb at the
end of the procedure, which is accompanied by an area of paresthesia i
n the distribution of the lateral digital nerve. We report our own exp
erience and a small review of the literature.
