Abstract
Several new analogues of the mRNA 5'-cap structure, m(7)G(5')p(n)(5')N , with n=2-4, have been synthesized in which the m(7)G component is re placed by 1-(beta-D-ribofuranosyl)benzimidazole (RBz) or 3-methyl-RBz. The latter, like m(7)G, has a positively charged imidazole ring and i s likewise fluorescent. All compounds have been characterized by vario us physico-chemical and enzymatic criteria, and by H-1 and P-31 NMR, s pectroscopy.
