Om. Oreilly et al., REVERSIBLE DYNAMICAL-SYSTEMS - DISSIPATION-INDUCED DESTABILIZATION AND FOLLOWER FORCES, Applied mathematics and computation, 70(2-3), 1995, pp. 273-282
This paper uses results from the theory of reversible dynamical system
s to examine the nonlinear stability of undamped follower force system
s. The well-known dissipation-induced destabilization found in these s
ystems is also examined and it is indicated how the postdestabilizatio
n dynamics can be determined using normal forms and an eigenvalue spli
tting criterion.
