Abstract
When fabricating built-up beams, longitudinal deformations occur and t hey impede further work because of fabrication errors. For straighteni ng of the deformations, heating of web plate is necessary. To fabricat e built-up beams automatically, control of the deformations is needed, based on precise estimation of longitudinal deformations due to weldi ng and heating. in this paper, to estimate the longitudinal deformatio ns of welded beams, a simplified one-dimensional thermal elasto-plasti c analysis method is proposed. Using this method, deformations due to welding and heating can be calculated efficiently and accurately. From the calculated results the phenomena that other researchers neglected were found, and experimental results verified the calculated ones. Si mple formulas proposed in this paper can be easily used to control lon gitudinal deformations.
