Abstract
The kinetics of pentachlorophenol (PCP) degradation by a Flavobacteriu m sp, ATCC 39723 has been investigated. Sodium glutamate was supplied as an additional carbon source to increase the rate of cell growth and PCP degradation, A kinetic model including PCP toxicity for cell grow th and PCP inhibition of its own degradation was developed, This model was also applied to 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) degradation by the same organism, Although PCP and DCP are degraded by different pathways, the model describes these two degradation processes very well.
