Ks. Jeng et al., MANAGEMENT OF SYMPTOMATIC POLYCYSTIC LIVER-DISEASE - LAPAROSCOPY ADJUVANT WITH ALCOHOL SCLEROTHERAPY, Journal of gastroenterology and hepatology, 10(3), 1995, pp. 359-362
An 81 year old woman with extensive polycystic liver disease received
laparoscopic unroofing and fenestration, followed by 95% ethanol scler
otherapy, resulting in almost complete disappearance of the cysts, Suc
h a procedure can avoid complications of both the multi-segmental live
r resections and extensive fenestrations, and untoward reactions from
a large amount of alcohol. In addition, it can achieve a satisfactory
result. It is suggested that this procedure could be a safe and effect
ive alternative to traditional open surgery in selective patients.
