The accelerated oxidation of 2-methyl-2-propanethiol by ethanethiol wa
s discovered first through the kinetics study of homogeneous catalytic
cooxidation of mixed 2-methyl-2-propanethiol and ethanethiol. A mecha
nism which conforms well to the experimental results was proposed, and
the derived rate law follows the two-substrate Michaelis-Menten equat
ion. Discussion is presented for the industrial sweetening operation i
n view of the mechanism.
