Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory and tuboovarian abscesses are considered to be rar e following tubal ligation. Three cases of tuboovarian abscess subsequ ent to sterilization are reported, Each woman complained of low abdomi nal pain, None had gonococcal or chlamydial cervicitis, and these orga nisms were not present in the peritoneal fluid, In two cases, endometr ial biopsy was performed without evidence of endometritis. Upper genit al tract infection should be included in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain, even in women who have undergone sterilization. Given this circumstance, hematogenous rather than ascending infection may h ave occurred.
