Abstract
The influence of several variables on the bioleaching of a uranium ore was studied in stirred reactor (orbital shaker). The importance of th e mineralogical composition of the ore was revealed when variables suc h as nutrient medium, energy source and pH were studied. The bioleachi ng capacity of a given culture was studied in relation to the aeration and temperature of the medium. Temperature was found to play a decisi ve role in the yields of uranium extracted, since it influences the be haviour of certain species of bacteria found in a natural culture.
