ANTHRAQUINONES AND PHENANTHROPERYLENEQUINONES FROM NEPHROMA-LAEVIGATUM

Four anthraquinones and two phenanthroperylenequinones were isolated f rom the lichen Nephroma laevigatum. The structures were established fr om their spectral data as emodin [1], 7-chloroemodin [2], 7-chloro-1-0 -methylemodin [3], 7-chloro-1-0-methyl-omega-hydroxyemodin [4], 7,7'-d ichlorohypericin [5], and 2,2',7,7'-terrachlorehypericin [6]. Compound s 4-6 have not been reported previously. 7,7'-Dichlorohypericin [5] an d 2,2',7,7'-tetrachlorohypericin [6] were also synthesized and charact erized spectroscopically.
