Comprehensive 2D nmr, ms, and X-ray diffraction studies have led to th
e characterization of a novel derivative of 2-(beta-glucopyranosyloxy)
-2,5-dihydroxybenzyl alcohol from the aerial parts of Xylosma flexuosu
m. This compound, which has been given the trivial name xylosmin, was
identified as benzyl-1R,2R,6R-trihydroxy-3-oxocyclohex-4-enoate. Three
related compounds were identified as salireposide, poliothrysoside an
d 2'-benzoylpoliothrysoside, the last of which is also new.
