Abstract
The molecular structure, conformational analysis, and absolute configu ration of isopaulitin [1], a sesquiterpene lactone, have been determin ed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The correlation betwe en the position and stereochemistry of the gamma-lactone fusion to the cycloheptane ring and the sign of the Cotton effect of the n-pi tran sition of the C=C-C=O chromophore in 1 has been analyzed.
