The)le longitudinal vacuum field B-(3) is an experimental observable w
hich produces by magnetization a well-defined square-root beam power d
ensity dependence. Its longitudinal polarization implies that the heli
cities of the photon are +1, 0, and -1, and that the little group of t
he Poincare group is the rotation group 0(3) of a massive boson. The m
ass of the photon (m) is therefore related directly to B-(3) through t
he Proca equation, and it is concluded that experimental evidence for
B-(3) is also evidence for finite m.
