The solubility, refractive index and viscosity of lithium oleate and a
bietate in water were determined. The solubility, apparent heat and en
tropy of the solution confirm the existence of aggregates of soaps abo
ve the Krafft point. Two c.m.c. i.e. 0.01 M and 0.075 M in abietate an
d a single c.m.c. i.e. 0.015 M in oleate and molar refraction of these
soaps were obtained. Several equations are used to interpret the visc
osity data. The evaluated parameters are wed to calculate the viscosit
y of soap solutions in various concentration ranges. The temperature d
ependence of the fluidity of soap solutions were studied by Arrhenius
and Eyring equations. The activation parameters i.e. Delta H, Delta G
and Delta S* suggest the aggregation of soaps in solutions.
