Abstract
A thin elastic shell under a transverse surface load is considered. Th e three-dimensional equations of the theory of elasticity are analysed asymptotically. The range of parameters of the problem is determined for which the effect of thickness compression cannot be neglected even in the roughest approximation. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Lt d.
