Abstract
Although there are several compelling pieces of evidence suggesting th at transcription can promote DNA replication, there are few studies th at indicate a role for DNA replication in controlling transcription. H ere, we discuss the role of the HMR-E silencer, an origin of replicati on that plays a crucial role in the regulation of expression of mating -type genes in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
