Abstract
A wideband optical receiver has been designed and fabricated. The gain with respect to 50 Omega is 12dB from 2 to 20GHz, and the noise spect ral density is a maximum of 10pA/root Hz between 6 and 18GHz. The nois e, gain and flatness performances of this GaAs MMIC-based receiver mat ch the equivalent achieved experimentally using highly optimised discr ete components, but using a manufacturable process.
