THE BRAZING OF SI3N4 WITH NI-CR-SI ALLOYS

The use of commercially available and laboratory made Ni-Si-Cr brazes for wetting and bonding Si3N4 has been explored. The microstructure an d chemistry of brazed joints has been characterized by techniques such as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron probe m icro-analysis and X-ray diffraction. Si3N4 was wetted well by all the braze alloys at 1150-1200 degrees C, but the joint quality obtained wa s poor because of the formation of brittle phases and solid solutions.
