Ah. Najmi et J. Sadowsky, THE CONTINUOUS WAVELET TRANSFORM AND VARIABLE RESOLUTION TIME-FREQUENCY ANALYSIS, Johns Hopkins APL technical digest, 18(1), 1997, pp. 134-140
Wavelet transforms have recently emerged as a mathematical tool for mu
ltiresolution decomposition of signals. They have potential applicatio
ns in many areas of signal processing that require variable time-frequ
ency localization. The continuous wavelet transform is presented here,
and its frequency resolution is derived analytically and shown to dep
end exclusively on one parameter that should be carefully selected in
constructing a variable resolution time-frequency distribution for a g
iven signal, Several, examples of application to synthetic and real da
ta are shown.
