nse task of reviewing and integrating the burgeoning research literatu
re on attachment, but have also challelnged readers to consider the re
levance of this literature for the domain of counseling psychology. Mo
re specifically, Lopez suggests that attachment theory may be a potent
ial ''metaperspective capable of integrating important personality and
developmental constructs in ways that both inform and stimulate our r
esearch and practice.'' With this consideration in mind, my comments w
ill foruc on the viability of attachment theory as an overarching fram
ework for counseling psychology with particular emphasis on the integr
ative potential and heuristic value of the theory.
