We present uv-vis and Raman spectroelectrochemical studies of poly(o-t
oluidine), the simplest ring substituted derivative of polyaniline. Th
e spectra of electrochemically prepared poly(o-toluidine) film were re
corded for different electrode polarisation potentials. Based on previ
ous calculations, an assignement of Raman vibrational modes in poly(o-
toluidine) is proposed. The results clearly show that due to symmetry
reasons selected vibrational modes in poly(o-toluidine) remain Raman i
nactive.
