Abstract
Seeking a competitive edge in the international market place, astute m anufactures are turning increasingly to computer-based process diagnos tic systems to insure product quality and consistency. The initial foc us in such installations is properly oriented towards process instrume ntation. In this paper, analytical redundancy is exploited to provide sensor signal validation on a high-speed, single-stand aluminum cold r olling mill. Several unique features of the application are used to ad vantage to facilitate real-time operation. Algorithm characteristics a re demonstrated using actual process data, corrupted as necessary, to showcase attributes of interest.
