Abstract
The synthesis of the control system of an overall boiler-turbine proce ss represents a non-trivial design problem. Significant improvements m ay be achieved, both in terms of efficiency and plant availability, if control functions are well organized. Complex control system architec tures may be conceived, but they exhibit the drawback of a complex set -up. In the paper it is shown that a single-loop auto-tuning technique may be successfully adopted for the design of the overall control sys tem. A prototype CAD/CAE environment has been developed to support the control design, from scheme editing to software production, with buil t-in tools both for synthesis and for analysis of results. General exp ert rules are obtained and commented upon.
