Six novel mononuclear complexes, MnCI(2)L . H2O, Mn(SCN)(2)L . 2H(2)O,
Mn(ClO2)(2)L . 2H(2)O, NiCl(2)L . 2H(2)O, Ni(SCN)(2)L . H2O, Ni(ClO4)
(2)L (L = N-hydroxyethyl-N,N',N'-tribenzimidazolylmethyl ethylene diam
ine), have been synthesized and characterized. The UV-visible spectra
of nickel complexes reveal that L is a weak field ligand. The ESR spec
tra indicate the asymmetric electronic environment of the manganese io
n in its complex. The crystal and molecular structures of Ni(SCN)(2)L
. H2O were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The nickel ions h
ave distorted octahedral symmetry. The preliminary results of bioassay
of the complexes showed that monomanganeses have antitumour activitie
s in vitro.
