A new linear coordination polymer composed of copper(I) cations and te
trakis(ethylthio)tetrathiafulvalene (TTC2-TTF) molecules has been synt
hesized by the reaction of copper(I) perchlorate and TTC2-TTF in aceto
ne under argon. The compound, [Cu(TTC2-TTF)]ClO4, was characterized by
spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic methods. It is a 1:1 metal-l
igand complex in which each of the copper(I) ions is tetrahedrally coo
rdinated by four sulphur atoms from the bridging TTC2-TTF molecules to
form coordination polymeric chains which are separated from each othe
r by the perchlorate anions in the crystal. The complex was doped with
iodine to afford {[Cu(TTC2-TTF)] ClO4}I, which exhibits a conductivit
y of 6 x 10(-4) S cm(-1) at 25 degrees C for a compacted pellet.
