Abstract
In order to understand the behaviour of pulverized coal injected into blast furnaces, direct observation of the combustion using high-speed camera was carried out. It was found that the combustion flame of pulv erized coal was not uniform across the cross-section in blowpipe and t uyere. The flow pattern of pulverized coal particles governed by injec tion lance arrangement had a significant effect on combustibility. On the basis of these observations, an advanced simulation model taking t he particle dispersion into account has been developed.
