Abstract
We have determined the wave number of the optical two-photon clock tra nsition 6s[3/2](2)-6s'[1/2](0) in xenon by interferometrically compari ng the wavelengths of the 6s [3/2](2)-6p'[1/2](1) (lambda = 450 nm) an d 6s'[1/2](0)-6p'[1/2](1) (lambda = 764 nm) transitions with an iodine -stabilized 633-nm He-Ne laser. These measurements determine the frequ ency of the two-photon transition [4564.610902(13) cm(-1) for Xe-132] to better than 1 MHz and provide precise values for the isotope shifts and the hyperfine structures of these transitions.
