Abstract
A 7-mo-old female Doberman Pinscher undergoing antibiotic treatment fo r tonsillitis was presented In near collapse with markedly low blood p ressure, tachycardia, dilatation of pupils (non-responsive to light), and gastrointestinal distress. Since the owner could provide no histor y of significant toxin exposure, general supportive and non-specific t oxicologic treatment protocols were initiated. Within 4 h marked impro vement was observed. The owner's wife revealed that promethazine suppo sitories had been administered at a toxic level to control the vomitio n accompanying the tonsillitis.
