Jr. Slate, DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN IQ AND INDEX SCORES FOR A CLINICAL-SAMPLE OF STUDENTS - USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC INDICATORS, Psychology in the schools, 32(2), 1995, pp. 103-108
Discrepancies between IQ and Index scores on the WISC-III were investi
gated for a sample of students with SLD (n = 202), with MR (n = 115),
and evaluated but not classified (n = 159). Mean Verbal and Performanc
e IQ discrepancies, though significantly different for each sample, we
re smaller than those reported in the WISC-III manual for the normativ
e sample. Similarly, the Index score comparisons indicated differentia
l functioning for the three samples, with the exception of the Verbal
Comprehension and Freedom from Distractibility Index discrepancy. More
over, the Performance IQ was higher than the Verbal IQ for all three s
amples. Consistent with the WISC-R literature, discrepancies between V
erbal and Performance IQs and higher Performance than Verbal IQs are n
ot diagnostic indicators of abnormalities.
