Abstract
Lambert and transverse Mercator map projections are used for topograph ic maps published by the U.S. Geological Survey, for the American Stat e Plane coordinate system, and for the UTM grid system. The properties and mathematical equations for these projections are summarized. Util ity computer programs in FORTRAN that accurately calculate latitude an d longitude from Lambert or Mercator coordinates, or the inverse, are presented.
