Abstract
A new method of calculating ene optical transfer function (OTF) for im age blur caused by arbitrary motion is introduced. Previous methods, e xcept for a few specific types of motion, were numerical rather than a nalytical. This new method makes it possible to obtain analytical expr essions for the OTF deriving from any kind of motion by means of the s tatistical moments of the motion function. Analytical OTF expressions are derived age degradation is presented for linear and exponential mo tion and high-frequency vibration of the same blur extent. The method can be implemented in real-time restoration of images blurred by arbit rary motion and in image motion degradation analysis. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(97)01602-5]
