The inhibitory effect of mercapto- and chloro-dicarbanonaborates on mi
tochondrial, FAD-linked, L-glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase activity
was tested. The mercaptodicarbanonaborate was found to be a more pote
nt inhibitor than the chloro derivative. The K-i of mercapto- and chlo
rodicarbanonaborates were 0.8 M and 480 M, respectively. Whereas the m
ercaptodicarbanonaborate inhibited the enzyme activity competitively,
the inhibitory effect of chloro derivative was noncompetitive. The inh
ibitory effect of mercaptodicarbanonaborate was completely prevented b
y addition of bovine serum albumin. (C) Academic Press, Inc.
