This paper presents a method to separate and determine some cations fr
om the transition metals and platinum metals group, as internal comple
xes with mercaptobenzothiazole, by reverse phase high performance liqu
id chromatography. An advantage of this method is, among others, that
it permits to determine the ionic form of the metal in the analyzed sa
mple. The mercaptobenzothiazole metallic complexes detection limit ran
ging 0.1 ppb (ng/ml) forplatinum and 0.7 ppb for palladium was obtaine
d. The complexes can be quantitatively extracted in chloroform, thus m
aking possible the cations determination in various aqueous medium.
