Highly oriented films of poly(dimethylsilylene) on smooth substrates s
uch as glass and quartz plates were prepared by the friction depositio
n technique. The structure of the oriented film was characterized by p
olarized optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and pola
rized ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy. The polymer backbone in the
film was parallel to the sliding direction. The orientation was confi
rmed to be dependent on the temperature of substrates during depositio
n.
