Abstract
The lithium dienolate 2 of 2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone (1) was reacted with alkenes substituted with moderately and strongly electron withdr awing groups to give 7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptanone derivatives. When st rongly electron withdrawing groups were present, the reactions occurre d under very mild conditions.
