Polyester cloth (polymacron) was employed as a solid phase onto which
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products from the Listeria monocytogen
es hlyA gene were dot blotted and sensitively detected by hybridizatio
n with nucleic acid probes. This inexpensive solid phase exhibited a h
igh DNA binding capacity and provided ease of handling and washing bet
ween each reaction step, resulting in simple hybridization procedures
for PCR product detection.
