We propose a method to extract nuclear charge distributions from elast
ic electron-scattering data based upon a mean-field approach. The nucl
ear charge distributions are generated by solving the Schrodinger equa
tion with a mean-field potential expanded in terms of Hermite function
s. The coefficients of the potential are changed in order to obtain th
e best fit with the cross-section data. Applications to the C-12, O-16
, Ca-40 and Pb-208 nuclei are presented.
