Abstract
Wild rats, Rattus norvegicus, R. exulans, and R. rattus, avoided wire- cage live traps that had previously captured mongooses, Herpestes auro punctatus. Replacing traps soiled by mongooses with clean traps would increase rat capture success and reduce a source of experimental bias.
