A Muskingum flood routing model coupled with an impulse response rainf
all-runoff model for ungauged lateral inflows is presented. The model
is designed to estimate the runoff hydrograph at a downstream point gi
ven runoff hydrographs at one or more upstream locations, and estimate
d rainfall hyetographs for ungauged catchments. A constrained, non-lin
ear (successive quadratic) programming algorithm is used to estimate t
he parameters of this model from historical data. These parameters inc
lude the Muskingum K and x, the attenuation coefficient and the flow v
elocity of the impulse response function for the ungauged catchment. T
ests of the model with synthetic situations and with a data set for th
e Godavari river reach in India are presented.
