Background: The main risk factor for Kaposi's sarcoma is contact to th
e feces of sexual partners. The risk increases with the frequency of o
ral-anal contacts with different partners. Patient: We report a case o
f a white, male homosexual with Kaposi's sarcoma and renal cell carcin
oma without detectable HIV infection. The tumor was resected, the pati
ent is healthy and still HIV-negative after a period of 3 years. Concl
usion: The so-called 'Kaposi agent' is still unknown but may be of ret
roviral nature and seems to be sexually transmissible.
