Cy. Lin et Ef. Crawley, DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR A STRAIN ACTUATED ADAPTIVE WING FOR AEROELASTIC CONTROL, Journal of intelligent material systems and structures, 6(3), 1995, pp. 403-410
The dominant issues in the preliminary design of a strain actuated aer
oelastic wing are examined. First, the scaling parameter for piezoelec
tric actuation authority is obtained and used to extrapolate strain ac
tuation variables from an earlier model. Second, the interaction of co
mposite fiber angle and geometric sweep angle is studied, specifically
the effect of these parameters on the passive aeroelastic behavior an
d potential closed-loop actuation authority. Finally, a taper ratio tr
ade is completed to understand the effect of varying taper ratio on th
e passive and active aeroelastic characteristics.
