The crystal structure and the magnetic properties of the Cu0.6Mn0.4Fe2
-xAlxO4 system have been investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry
and Mossbauer spectroscopy, The crystal structure has been found to b
e a cubic spinel phase throughout the entire composition range. The de
pendence of the Mossbauer parameters on the Al concentration is discus
sed, and the cation distributions are presented. The linewidth at the
A-site increases linearly with Al concentration. This is attributed to
the difference in the supertransferred hyperfine field contributions
from the neighboring B-site cations.
