In order to obtain the source function for an investigation of the tra
nsport, the radial and toroidal distribution of laser blow-off injecte
d lithium atoms is investigated in a two-dimensional observation geome
try. The effect of the different injection types on the 2D distributio
ns is studied and the results are discussed in detail. For a 1 mu m th
ick lithium target a broad toroidal distribution and a deep radial pen
etration is detected. Possible explanations of these observations are
presented.
