Abstract
Sialyl-galactosyl-globoside (SGG, 1), carrying the SSEA-4 antigen, is synthesized from readily available, versatile building blocks 2-7 in a convergent manner. Thus, appropriately protected tetra- and pentasacc harides 15 and 17 are generated, which constitute valuable intermediat es for the synthesis of various other members of the globo-series of g lycosphingolipids.
