Abstract
The magnetic moment induced in an atom in crossed electric and magneti c fields is written in terms of the independent components eta(paralle l-to) and eta(perpendicular-to) of the Cotton-Mouton susceptibility te nsor. Numerical results are presented for hydrogen and alkali atoms.
