Studies on CO2 removal from coal-fired power stations indicate that ne
t efficiencies of 40 % are feasible. About 88 % of very clean CO2 can
be bled off in the gaseous or liquid state of aggregation. This can be
achieved with IGCC's employing water gas shift and physical absorptio
n for CO2 separation or, potentially, H-2/CO2 separation with membrane
s and the usual gas cleaning upstream of the gas turbine combustion ch
amber. The pre-basic design study is based solely on proven components
, known processes and experience gained from the construction of the c
ombined cycle power plant components of the IGCC demonstration plants
in Europe.
