C-13 Magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectro
scopic measurements were carried out in order to investigate the inter
action between Lewis acid sites in H-ZSM-5 and adsorbed carbon monoxid
e. A new measure for the ''overall'' Lewis acidity of zeolites could b
e derived from the C-13 MAS NMR spectroscopic data. Further, the chemi
cal shift of CO adsorbed on Bronsted acid sites and physisorbed CO cou
ld be determined to amount to delta(B) = 178 ppm and delta(P) = 186 pp
m, respectively.
