Abstract
In this paper, several definitions of reactive and apparent power in t he non-sinusoidal regime are analysed and their repercussions in energ y-billing are assessed. The classical method of optimisation by capaci tor bank is considered to be problematic since it produces frequent re sonances and increased harmonic distortion.
